Add Privacy To Your Office Building By Adding Opaque Film To Windowpanes

Opaque window film will provide your office building with privacy and will still allow sunlight to filter through. Learn how to apply window film to the windows inside of your establishment by completing the following steps. Once the film has been added, clean it properly in the future so that it lasts for several years.

Materials Needed

  • window cleaner
  • lint-free cloths
  • measuring tape
  • opaque window film
  • plastic sheeting
  • rubber gloves
  • mild dish detergent
  • water
  • spray bottle
  • squeegee
  • plastic scraper

Clean And Measure The Windowpanes

Use glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth to clean the interior windowpanes that you wish to cover with opaque window film. Dry the glass with a clean lint-free cloth. Measure the length and width of each windowpane so that you can purchase sheets of window film that are large enough to cover the glass. Many types of film can be purchased from a home improvement center. Customized sheets can also be purchased by ordering film from a company that manufactures window film.

Prepare A Soapy Solution

Lay plastic sheeting or a tarp underneath each window so that if the soapy solution that you use to apply the film drips, it won't get onto the flooring in your business. Fill a spray bottle with water. Add a few drops of mild dish detergent to the bottle. Once the top to the bottle has been secured, shake the contents inside of the bottle for several seconds. Put on a pair of rubber gloves so that you do not get any fingerprints on the window film while it is being added to the windowpanes.

Add The Sheets Of Film

Peel the backing from one of the sheets of film. Secure the opaque film to one of the panes by pressing it firmly against the glass, beginning in one corner of the windowpane. Spray the edges of the film with a light, even coat of the soapy solution. Move a squeegee across the film in straight lines. The soapy solution that was added will help the edges of the film lay flat against the glass.

If there are any small wrinkles in the film that you have difficulty eliminating with the squeegee, push a plastic scraper over them to remove them. Add the remaining sheets of film in the same manner. Wait for the edges of each piece of film to dry.

Maintain The Film

In order to keep the pieces of film clean and damage-free, only use mild detergent that has been mixed with water and a soft cloth to clean each one. If any visible soap remains on the film, remove it with a soft cloth that has been dampened with water. Dry the film by wiping it off with a clean cloth. As long as careful measures are taken whenever cleaning the film, it will remain in excellent shape.
